Swinging into the spring, Coach Carrera and the Madison High School Boys Tennis Team come prepared for competition. Although the boys lost seniors Charlie Cripe, Diego Estevez, Ryan Poole, Benjamin Preston, and Saatvik Sharma, there has been an addition of people alongside many familiar faces from previous years. This is the largest number of boys to seek interest in the team, as returning starters and newcomers move full force into the season to get ready for the matches ahead.
The boys that return are Kellen Cheu, Bryce Curey, Broderick Dineen, Dashiell James, Toon Janssen, Lukas Kolega, Enzo Leonardis, Christopher Lee, Enzo Leonardis, and Dylan Murphy. After days of challenge matches it has been confirmed that senior Lukas Kolega will be playing first singles, junior Broderick Dineen will be playing second singles, and junior Dashiell James will be playing third singles. Although doubles has yet to be determined, it is known that one of the starting doubles teams will be juniors Luke Cimino and Scott Sullivan.
Returning from a 3-16 season is not a stress for the Madison boys, for the spirit and hard work being put into practices and challenge matches has set a precedent for this year. Head Coach Anton Carrera says “The players are working hard and are motivated to be competitive this season. It’s a great group of boys that are having a lot of fun working and learning together”.
The first scheduled match is away against Hanover Park on April 9th at 4:00pm with matches after against Whippany Park, Boonton, Montville, and Pequannock.
