With Spring upon us, the boys and girls golf team are preparing for their 2024 season. The two teams are hard at work spending much time on the course, at the range and on the the putting greens. Let’s take a look at their goals for this year.
Last year, the Boys team had a great season and won the sectional championship for the second year in a row. This year, the team is striving to be even better. Junior Alex Patel says the team plans to be “undefeated. And make the state championship, win it, and move on to the tournament of champions.” They’re motivation from last year stays consistent, yet there are some changes in the team this year. The boys golf team lost some key seniors this year, however, they are filling those roles, such as Cole Eckhard and Quinn Regan, to keep their winning streak going. With the success of last season, the team has gained a lot of attention and new players are joining. The team was supposed to open their season March 27, against Hackettstown, but unfortunately the match got rained out. The team will now be opening their season April 8th against Mountain Lakes.
Just like the boys team, the girls have gained a lot of freshmen to the team this year. This year there are no seniors on the golf team, but juniors Zoe Avazis, Caitlyn Piotrowsky, Charlotte Dunn are taking on that responsibility to be leaders of the team. Charlotte Dunn explains that there are a lot of new inexperienced freshman players and it is, “The coaches job to help them, but also ours to give them some basics, even how to hold the club.”
The Madison girls golf team opened their season on March 26th. The girls are already starting off the season strong with a win against Hanover Park: 206-212. Sophomore Elizabeth Green finished first with a 40 and sophomore Liloy Fee finished 3rd with a 50.
And so, both golf teams are looking forward to a successful season. Alex Patel explains that the players are hard at work, practicing with the team, and individually at the courses they go to. Nathan Tallinder says that the boys team can “definitely 3-peat, and have the talent to do so!”. This goes to show the determination and optimism the golf team has as they enter their Spring season.
