It was a great season for the Madison Girls Volleyball team, posting 17 wins with only 8 losses and making it all the way to the NJSIAA Tournament Semifinal Round. This season followed last year’s extraordinary campaign which produced a record of 22/5 and an appearance in the state finals.
Top performers this season included senior Angelina Christoffers with 130 kills, senior Olivia Bruno with 32 blocks, and sophomore Eva Errichetti with 465 assists. Other strong performers included sophomore Sophia Christoffers (108 kills), senior Izzy Hunter (211 digs), and senior Alison McGratty (63 service points).
The team showed perseverance after its season opening loss against St. Elizabeth, to come back with three consecutive wins vs. Mountain Lakes, Villa Walsh, and Pinelands. The regular season finished with a 7 game win streak, beginning with the October 10th victory against Summit, and concluding with the October 23rd victory against Morris Catholic. During the NJSIAA playoffs, Madison defeated Parsippany 2 to 0. In the next round they defeated Parsippany Hills 2 to 1. The season concluded with a semifinal loss to West Essex 1 to 2.
With the end of this season, the Madison team is saying goodbye to seniors Olivia Bruno, Angelina Christoffers, Hayley Gajewski, Izzy Hunter, and Alison McGratty who were all key players in this year’s successful campaign. Coach Stephen Fenton will be returning next season with contributions from returning players like junior Tessa Finn, sophomore Charlotte Forrester, junior Devon Johnson, and sophomore Eden O’Connor, as well as incoming freshmen that will join next fall. The team is looking forward to an even greater success in the following season, under the mentorship of Coach Fenton.
