The Madison High School volleyball team finished last season with a staggering 22-5 record and a trip to the sectional final. They were undefeated in conference with losses only to schools larger than them including a loss to Montville in the section final. After graduating more than half the team, they turn to senior captains Izzy Hunter, Olivia Bruno, and Angelina Christoffers for leadership.
Olivia led the girls last season with 146 kills and 20 blocks. Going into her senior season her goals aren’t necessarily to lead the team in any one stat but to “keep the team together and win as many games as possible”. The team also looks to Angelina and Izzy to help fill those key roles. The team has confidence in them, their strong swings will be more effective on the outside which will generate more points. Another point of emphasis has been sophomore Eva Errichetti who’s been off to a hot start. Eva is “learning, doing a great job, and developing every practice”.
Olivia, Izzy, and Angelina have all found themselves on the varsity squad since sophomore year. Over this time they’ve grown close as a group and developed strong chemistry. Volleyball is a fast-paced sport and leaves little time for communication. When the three of them are together in the back they know exactly where they are and who’s going to get the ball. On a team with five seniors, three juniors and four sophomores they hope to show the rest of them what needs to be done and how to be successful.
The team is especially looking forward to games against school rival Hanover Park on 9/22 and 10/11, Par Hills on 9/20 and 10/9, and hoping to get redemption on Montville in the state playoffs. The team shows up every day ready to put in the work. They know it’s going to be a challenge, but the ultimate goal is to win championships in tournaments, counties, and states. Make sure to check out the rest of their schedule!
