The Madison football team is 0-2 after losing at West Morris Mendham High School following their opening loss to their rivals Hanover Park a week prior. The Madison Dodgers faced the Mendham Liberty Blue last Friday night resulting in a lopsided win for Mendham.
Going into the game, the Dodgers hoped to shake out the growing pains of their newer offense with Luke McGuire at quarterback and an O-line composed of juniors. Under the lights, the Mendham defense was an iron wall and the Dodgers were not able to get anything going offensively. Defensively, Madison found it difficult to stop the rush of Cole Capuzzi and Kevin King of Mendham, scoring 3 touchdowns each.
With the loss to Mendham, fuel was added to the fire for Madison’s game against Cedar Grove. Players like Jonathan Erickson hope to get the passing game going calling the team “a new wave.” How will this wave pick up speed? In games prior, Madison has used players like junior Ron Tucker, senior Chris Carfano, and junior Luke McGuire in the running game to score touchdowns. Will this physical mentality work against Cedar Grove? The matchup is slated for September 21st at Ted Monica Field in Madison.
