Summer consisted of hard work and dedication for many of the players on the Madison Football team. Whether this meant attending summer practices, taking frequent trips to the weight room, or even throwing with family, the Dodgers continued to put in the time for the upcoming season.
On September 2, the season opener against Verona pushed the football team into a high pressure situation. The student section filled with Hawaiian shirts and leis, just days before school was supposed to start. The game closed with a score of 31-34, taking a hard yet close loss in the first game. However, this was not the end all, as the team kept their head in the game and continued to prepare for the upcoming game against the heated Hanover Park.
The boys went into the game hot-headed against their biggest rivals. Instagram was lively with hype videos being posted, gaining hundreds of interactions on behalf of the student body. The two schools taunting each other created huge anticipation, so this was a game to look forward to. Unfortunately, this Friday night game was canceled due to weather conditions and rescheduled the following Saturday morning, September 9. Despite having flashing colors of red white and blue in the student section and a full night of rest, Madison took a hard loss against Hanover Park with a final score of 14-35. Yet, the Madison Dodgers are not one to give up, holding their focus for the next game against Mountain Lakes.
Entering an away game for the second time into the season, the Dodgers entered Lakers territory on September 14. It was a challenging game as the Dodgers only scored 7 points and took a final loss of 7-34. Regardless of the past season stats, Madison continues to hold up the fort, and stay persistent within their teamwork and communication, as directed by Coach Kubik and Coach Liberato. The next upcoming games include one home game against Pequannock at 1:00 pm on September 23 and another away game days after on September 29 against Mendham at 7:00 pm. Show your support for the Madison Dodgers as they hope to make a comeback.
