Jack McGuire, Madison High School’s varsity quarterback, sets foot on the field as a varsity quarterback for the first time. After a year of being a long snapper, Jack is settling into his new position behind center.
Jack’s is an inspiring story to many Madison High School student athletes. He shared that he trained even more on the field with his friends and family over the summer to get to this point. He is hands-on and prefers scrimmages, on-the-field exercises, and realistic gameplays to prepare for this year’s Fall football season.
When formally interviewed on September 12, 2023, by the student broadcast journalism class, Jack opened up about his goals for the season.
“I want to make a playoff run and personally I want to throw for 1500 total yards this season,” Jack said. Jack’s original goal was to be the quarterback on the varsity team and, now that he has put in the work to get into this position, his new goals can’t be far behind.
Jack mentioned that he felt motivated to play football because of his teammates, coaches, and his family, who take time every day to practice with him on the field. He recalled practicing daily: “I throw to my younger and older brother and we will go to the field.” This support is so important because it helped shape Jack into a more grateful and determined student athlete, understanding his roots and what helped him throughout his football career. Jack adds, “there have definitely been coaches on my side throughout the process encouraging me, motivating me, and my parents too!”
In terms of Jack’s future college career, although Jack does not look to extend beyond his high school career in college, he still hopes to be involved with the sport and wants to enjoy it. Jack has learned a lot about teamwork, communication, and how grateful he is to represent Madison High School as a quarterback on the field. His story of working hard with family to get to the varsity level is an important takeaway to all, practice is important, but the support along the way is even more necessary.
