Football End of Season 2022

The Dodger football season came to an unfortunate end two weeks ago when they took an unfortunate 14-10 loss to Jefferson. The Dodgers put up a hard fight and even had a game winning touchdown in the final seconds; but it was all taken away but a bad call from the referees.

Although their season is over, the Dodgers finished out with some pretty impressive stats. Players on both sides of the ball had huge seasons, making big plays when it counted the most. Key interceptions, touchdowns, and catches helped the Dodgers gain their final record of 6-3.

On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Brayton Boyer threw 28 completions for 314 yards. Running back Greg Randall led the team in rushing yards with 560 and completed three touchdowns. Running backs Anthony Contessa and Jayson Candelario followed Randall’s lead with 439 yards and four touchdowns, and 335 yards and six touchdowns respectively. Randall also led the team with carries at 98, followed by Candelario with 74 and Contessa with 58.

Wide receiver Robert Ferris led the team in receiving yards with 179 for two touchdowns. He is followed by wide receiver Joaquin Izzo and Candelario with 50 and 48 yards respectively. Contessa has 94 kickoff return yards followed by Randall with 52.

On special teams, Boyer made seven out of the ten field goals he kicked. He also made 19 out of the 20 extra points he kicked. Ethan Allocca kicked and made one extrapoint and Cade LaFerriere completed a two point conversion.

On the defensive side of the ball, LaFerriere led the team for tackles with 46, followed by Joey DeMarzo and James Amorosi both with 31. LaFerriere also leads the team in tackles for loss with 15. Aniello Vacchiano follows closely behind with 7.5, and then Brandon Quintero and Amorosi with five. LaFerriere continued to have a great season leading the team with five sacks. Contessa led the team with three fumble recoveries and Dante Izzo led with six interceptions.

At the end of every season, Morris Sussex Sports rounds up the best of the best football players and puts them into All Conference Teams. Ten Dodger made those teams for the American Gold conference.

Aniello Vacchiano made the American Gold team. Cade LaFerriere, Joey Demarzo, and Dante Izzo made First Team Defense. Brayton Boyer made First Team Special Teams. Robert Ferris and Greg Randall made Second Team Offense. Anthony Contessa and Joaquin Izzo made Second Team Defense. Jayson Candelario was an honorable mention.
