On Tuesday, October 17, Madison Field Hockey played the Morris County Championship game against Chatham and suffered a last-minute defeat of 2-1. Despite this, Madison Field Hockey is looking to the future, keeping their chins up.
The entire game was extremely tight, and the final goal was only scored in the final play of the game. This was obviously very upsetting to the Dodgers, but senior Sophia Modi believes that the team was best at “working together… playing with composure… being a unit, and controlling the flow of the game.” The Dodgers were up 1-0 well into the fourth quarter of the game, maintaining most of the possession. Through their play it’s made clear that they are a strong team, with teammates that rely on each other and work to push everybody up. The goal was scored by senior Charlotte Smith, marking her fourth goal of the season.
Despite this devastating buzzer-beater loss, the Dodgers have not given up. Quite the contrary; “the team was definitely frustrated by the loss but… turned it into a fire for the rest of the season” says Sophia Modi. “We took our frustration to practice the next day and made it our mission to perfect everything we had messed up on in that game.” The field hockey season is not over, with at least two more games to come. October 27th at 2pm and October 30th at 4pm, the team takes to the field again at Ted Monica Stadium.
Madison Field Hockey looks towards the future with hope. Modi adds, “the motivation on this team is what gives us all the power and… as long as [we] keep this intensity [we] will be just fine.” Good luck with the rest of your season Dodgers!
