Following their historic victory at NJACS the previous week, the Madison Cross Country team made their way back to Greystone. At the NJAC Championship meet both the JV men and Varsity men secured 1st place victories.
In the varsity race, Madison was the first team to have all seven of their runners finish, all in the top 25, securing the victory. Boys JV was also dominated by Madison with eight of the top ten all being Madison runners. This is the first time Madison High School has won the NJAC title. Women’s Varsity placed 5th in their race. Be sure to look out for Sylvie Vanderbilt and Sharon Park, two freshmen girls, who have placed 12th and 19th in the race respectively and who have done exceptionally well this past season.
The Morris County Championship took place on Tuesday the 17th of October. Unlike the NJAC meet, MC Champs combined both small and big schools, making it more challenging for the Madison runners. Both JV and Varsity men scored 4th overall. Many runners saw massive PRs. Leo London, the top runner for Men’s varsity went from 16:35 to 16:11. Eli Stodard went from 17:55 to 17:40.
Leo London, Jake Nolan, and Patrick Natale all came in the top 20 coming in 9th, 16th, and 20th with times of 16:11, 16:30, and 16:38 respectively. JV men would have Martin Bria come in first for Madison coming in 9th with a time of 18:39 immediately followed by Ryan Delaney in 10th with his time 18:44.
On the girls side Sharon Park and Sylvie Vanderbilt came 34th and 35th with times 21:07 and 21:09 respectively. The varsity women’s team placed 10th overall.

Unfortunately this was the last race for many seniors who have been with the team since freshman year to recently just joining their senior year. Ryan Pfeifer, Sam Cohen, Tom Yao, Colby Ellis, Faiz Yasin, Gabe Robison, Mary Johansen, Phoebe Stern, Camryn Morales, are some of the seniors who have concluded their season at the Morris County meet. However, you may still be able to see them run as some are staying on as alternates.
If you wish to see Madison’s Men’s and Women’s Varsity teams in action be sure to attend the NJSIAA Sectionals meet on Saturday October 28th at the Greystone course. The Greystone course is located at Central Park of Morris County in Parsippany. The women’s race will be at 12:30 and men’s at 1:30.
