This coming Saturday the Madison Boys Soccer team faces off against Delbarton in the Morris County Tournament Finals. The Madison Girls Soccer team also plays Chatham in the finals on the same day.
The number 2 seeded Madison Boys Soccer defeated 6-seeded Chatham in a tight 1-0 final. With just under 9 minutes left in the game, Matt Munoz ,the lead scorer for the Dodgers, scored the first and only goal of the game. Cal Regan totaled a 5 save shutout. Madison will advance to face top seeded Delbarton next Saturday. Both Madison and Delbarton are undefeated this season so the game will most likely end in a dog fight between the two teams. Starting goalie Cal Reagan says that the key to winning their next game is ”we have to play as a team, minimize mistakes and score some goals.” Delbarton starting forward Owen Miller is coming off of a hatrick against Hanover Park and a goal against Don Bosco Prep. Miller is on a hot streak currently and looks to give Madison some trouble. Madison is more focused on controlling what they need to do to win rather than adjusting their game plan for playing Delbarton. The Madison boys have a game on Thursday which leaves for a preparation practice on Friday. The last time Madison won the County Finals was in 2009.
The number 4-seeded Madison Girls soccer team defeated the 9-seeded Montville 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Morris County Tournament. Sam Nielsen and Anna Gominiak both contributed a goal each. Antonia Waddington limited Montville to one goal and finished the game out with 7 saves. Madison will now advance to take on number 3 seeded Chatham in the Morris County Finals on Saturday, October 26. Madison is currently 14-1 and Chatham is 11-4. Center Defensive Mid Gabby Mariani says the key to winning the finals against Chatham is going to be “coming out with a lot of energy and intensity from the start, and we have to play as a team.” Gabby says “they are very fast in the midfield so we are working and making adjustments prior to the game for our counterattack. They play a high defensive line so we’re looking to play diagonal through balls.” This Saturday will be the first time in history the Madison Girls Soccer team have ever played in the Morris County Tournament Finals.
The Madison Boy’s Soccer Team looks to continue their win streak to 14-0 against Delbarton. The Madison Girl’s Soccer Team also looks to continue their success this season against Chatham. Both of the Morris County Tournament Finals take place this Saturday, October 26.
