This past May the Marching Dodgers traveled to Disney World where they performed their show Solaris in Magic Kingdom.
Every 4 years the marching band and colorguard take a trip to Disney World. In between those 4 years they are fundraising for their trip. Marching band representative Henry McCann explains the dodgers, “hope to collect as much so that the entirety of the music program can travel for free.” This past year, at least 5 participants in the music program were able to attend the Disney trip free of cost.
In preparation for the trip, the Marching Dodgers perform a Disney concert. This is also another way the marching dodgers fundraiser their trip. Some of the tunes performed at the concert are performed in their march at Main Street Disney. When in Disney the dodgers spend time in Magic Kingdom practicing and memorizing the turns they will face during the parade.
High school senior Ella Tucker attended the trip last year and had an absolute blast. She describes the Disney trip as one of the best field trips she’s ever been on. She explained,“ we were stoked to visit all the Disney parks for at least a day and try all the different rides and experiences. We also got adjudicated which means we got instruction from a music professional which allowed us to practice our craft and get better at making music together. Overall it was a really great experience!” The Disney trip was both a fun and educational experience. Ella speaks on behalf of the marching dodgers that the Disney trip was a once in a lifetime experience!
