Kaden Peterson is a returning captain to this year’s Madison High School Girls Tennis Team. Kaden has been a captain since sophomore year and has been part of the team since being a Freshman. She explained that she is very excited for the upcoming season as she feels much more prepared than last year. When asked why, she said that she has been working with a private lesson coach off the court during the offseason, and has been playing all throughout the summer, even when she is on vacation.
One change in the team Kaden felt has improved their chemistry, is their head coach Anton Carrera, who started last year. When asked about his second year as head coach and the changes he’s looking to make he said, “The plan for this year was to keep that tight knit bonding that the team was able to create last year and replicate that for the team this year. Team bonding dinners and good fundraisers were important to have in order to build up the team. One thing we are doing differently is trying to involve everyone during practice by playing different games that challenge the players on an individual basis.”
One aspect of her game that Kaden believes is essential is the high standards she holds herself to. Even in the face of mistakes or losses she thinks that having high standards improves her work ethic and leads to her constant improvement. One example of her great work ethic is the fact that she runs track specifically for the purpose of being stronger for Tennis.
Kaden is also no stranger to pressure, starting on varsity since being a Freshman. However, as a captain, she explained that the pressure is completely different, “you are no longer proving yourself to the team, instead you are leading it.”
