Marc Dovico has been with the Dodgers the past three years and is in his fourth year at the helm of the Madison Girls Varsity Soccer program. It has been an impressive three years to say the least. He has had winning records every year, and after a disappointing early exit in the state tournament his first season, has brought his team to two consecutive state sectional finals, winning the most recent, and finishing the season as the group two runners-up.
In his first year, the Dodgers amassed a record of 10-6, unfortunately losing in the first round of states to a strong West Essex team. Throughout the season, they won big games against Hanover Park twice and had a great win against Bayonne.
In his second season, returning a lot of key players, he was looking to build on the success of his previous season. That is exactly what he did, going 16-2-2, winning their conference with an undefeated record and making it to the section finale, but unfortunately falling short yet again. This was a huge leap from the season before and shows the strength of the program and the coaching ability of Dovico.
Going into his third season with a team returning several players that made it to the section finals, the team had a new found confidence and trust in their coach. Starting off that season with a huge conference game against a strong Mountain Lakes team, they fell short and lost 2-1. After that game, they won the next 14 in a row and made it to the county finals. After losing to an amazing Chatham team, they went on to win the sectional final against Bernards and make it to the group final, eventually losing to Point Pleasant Boro.
Awarded Morris County Coach of the Year for his performance last season, there is pressure on the team to do well and find success this year. That is exactly what they have done so far- going 4-0-1 and having a great start to the season. In juxtaposition to last year, they started off with a huge first game win against a good Mountain Lakes team, 4-1. This was a great confidence booster for the team and the coaching staff and shows what they can accomplish moving forward this season. With big goals in sight, Dovico and his team are hoping to add even more victories and achievements to their mantle this season.
