Jack McGuire graduated in 2024, leaving the quarterback position open, and a familiar name took up the mantle. In what has become a familial tradition, Luke McGuire stepped up during his junior year. Despite the immense pressure to prove himself, Luke did not disappoint and is approaching many milestone marks in his senior season as quarterback.
For the past two years, according to nj.com, McGuire has been the team leader for total passing yards, nearing a total 400 his junior year, and jumping to over 600 so far during his senior year. This year, McGuire also holds the most rushing yardage (185 yards), passing the graduated Christopher Carfano. When first entering senior year, McGuire did not only hold these statistical titles as team leader on nj.com, but was also named captain of the Madison Dodgers football team. His passion and commitment to the sport of football made Luke an obvious choice for this leadership position.
The Madison Dodgers have been historically known for primarily running the ball more often than passing, but this year they have decided to modify this approach. Looking at the passing stats that McGuire has totaled up in the past two years, Luke is nearing 80 completed passes so far in his high school career. According to him, in order for a pass to be successful, “it’s all about reading the defense and reacting. Before the snap, I have an idea of where the ball is going, and it’s important to take what they give me and not get greedy.”
With this valuable technique, McGuire has accumulated over 1,000 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns. The Dodgers are now more focused on looking for passing options, hoping to open up the field a lot more. Most of the players believe that passing the ball seems to be effective, helping them utilize the entirety of the field, especially the sides, instead of only the center.
The quarterback position brings much responsibility, however, McGuire is proving his worthiness of this title.
