The Madison Girls Tennis team suffered a devastating loss against Morristown Beard this past Tuesday at Delbarton courts which adds another loss onto a sickly season.
After starting out the 2025 tennis season with a strong win against Parsippany Hills, the girls team had a recent string of losses, broken up with a successful 3-2 win against Bernards. With a 2-8 record, the girls hoped to make some changes in their season and take down a formidable opponent at the midway point in their season, but the result was not what they’d hoped for.
Over the course of the season, both the second doubles(Caroline Benjamin and Maggie Walsh) and the third singles(Alexis Maroukian) have had strong matches, winning a majority of them and gaining significant points on the board for Madison. Unfortunately, even though they have a large group of talented seniors and a couple skilled juniors at the Varsity level, it is not resulting in points on the board.
The final result of the Madison vs Morristown Beard match was even more disappointing with Madison being outscored 0-5 by Morristown Beard’s girls tennis squad. The doubles and singles players performed strongly against difficult opponents but fell short.
After losing a group of starting seniors and a junior transfer who gained significant points for Madison in the 2024 season, the new group of seniors are still working to change the momentum of the season before playoffs roll around.
But morale is not down for these girls. They are optimistic about the future of their season. While playing difficult opponents such as Chatham, Hanover Park, and Morristown Beard, the girls continue to stay positive and are continuing to strive for success. Maggie Walsh, junior doubles player, told Dodger Media, “Although we had some tough losses, we’ve been showing perseverance. We are definitely moving past our loses and we are going to approach the second half of the season with good attitudes,”
All eyes are on these girls as they hope to turn this season around. They will play opponents from previous matches this year including Hanover Park, Villa Walsh, and Morristown Beard again to end their season. Wishing the best of luck to the Madison Girls Tennis team in the rest of their 2025 season.
