The MLB season is to open on March 27th, but injuries have claimed many players. This will likely shake up the season.
It was announced Yankee pitcher, Gerrit Cole, will be having Tommy John Surgery. This will end any opportunity for him to compete in the 2025 season.
Many are saying Gerrit Cole’s surgery will have a major impact for the Yankees season. “You have to make adjustments. There’s no set plan in stone when you show up to spring training. The inevitable injuries are going to pop up,” said Yankee righty Clarke Schmidt.
Combined with other injuries on Stanton, Gil, and Brubaker the season is looking tough for the World Series runner-up.
In March of last year, Cole was diagnosed with nerve irritation and edema. Despite this Cole still decided to play in the season and forwent surgery, opting for rehab instead.
In an Instagram post on Monday Cole stated that surgery is “necessary next step for my career.” There is still no set replacement for the pitcher.
Other notable injured players include previously mentioned Giancarlo Stanton, Luis Gil, JT Brubaker of the Yankees, Francisco Alvares, Sean Manaea of the Mets, Gunnar Henderson, Grayson Rodriguez of Baltimore Orioles, Sean Murphy of Atlanta Braves, and George Kirby of the Seattle Mariners.
Many of these injuries will take several weeks or even months to heal.
With so many it will be interesting to watch to see how the first few weeks of the season plays out.
