Saturday, March 8, 2025 was a great day for Madison sports fans as the boys basketball team beat Hoboken to win their first ever Sectional Title. Madison had the advantage of a higher seed which also meant a home court advantage and plenty of fans showed up to cheer on the Dodgers. Neither Hoboken or Madison had achieved a sectional title prior to Saturday which meant both teams were hungry for a win.
The game was a nail biter as the teams were fairly well matched with a close scoring game through each quarter. The leading scorers for the Dodgers included Gavin Randall with 14 points, Cal Regan with 13 points and Michael Liddy with 12 points including the winning bucket which happened in the final seconds of the game causing the fans to run onto the court in excitement. It was one of those moments that will be forever remembered by everyone on the team.
With only 13.4 seconds left in the game and Hoboken up by 1 point, Coach Reel called a timeout and discussed a play with his team. The play was for Gavin Randall to bring the ball up and pass to Michael Liddy who would look to pass the ball to Cal Regan. When Cal was covered by the Hoboken players, Liddy knew he had to make space to take a shot himself knowing that time was running out. Liddy made the shot and the gym erupted.
The Hoboken team also showed up to play and did not make it easy for the Dodgers. Players Jake Ellis and Nick Petruzzelli both scored 13 points.
The game also marked the 24th win for Madison who will play Glen Rock next and hopefully the season continues for the Madison Dodgers.
