Madison senior Charlotte Tuhy broke the Morris County all time scoring record in Madison’s 54-21 win over Hanover Park last Tuesday. Tuhy reached this mark in the second quarter with a three pointer to give her the record. In four seasons for Madison, Tuhy has tallied 2,332 points, 1,078 rebounds, 192 assists, 139 blocks, and 325 steals. Freshman year, Tuhy averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds, sophomore year, she averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds. Junior year, she averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds, and currently in her senior year, she is averaging 26 points and 9 rebounds. Since freshman year, Charlotte has had her number called and has always performed.
I spoke to the girls basketball Coach, Lisa DiTuro, and she had very high praise for the senior: “Charlotte is a prolific scorer. Every year she develops her game and adds something new to her arsenal. She is so hard to match-up with because she can get downhill, can score from the mid-range, and is incredibly efficient from the 3-point line. Her development and ability to score has been fun to experience for the last four years. Her teammates help put her in a great position to score.”
One of those teammates, Gabby Mariani, who is often assisting on her buckets said of Charlotte: “I have been playing with Charlotte for a long time now, so we read each other really well. I am really lucky to have a player like her to pass to as she helps lead our offense to success. She is an amazing player and person, and the Madison girls basketball program was lucky to have her.”
Charlotte has been a dominating presence on the Girls basketball team for the last four seasons, and will look to continue her offensive success at American University, where she has committed to play next year. She will also look to keep dominating on the high school court as the girls gear up for a postseason run. They will face Newark Collegiate in the first round of the State Tournament on Thursday, February 27th at 4 PM at MHS.
