The 2024 playoffs have gotten off to a riveting start and exciting finish with the match up between the Mets and the Phillies. The Mets came out on top 3-2 in the series.
In the first game of the NLDS, the Mets started strong by beating the Phillies. Kyle Schwarber hit the only home run on the first at bat of the game, but the final score was 6 – 2, with the Mets coming out on top.
In the second game, the Phillies evened the score, with Castellanos stepping up in a big way. The Phillie was booed off after swinging and missing two pitches, both outside the zone, an event that totally changed his play for the remainder of the series. In an interview after the game, he said that was the moment in which he “locked in.” He then proceeded to hit a home run, have a game saving catch, and a walk-off single. The game ended with the score of 7 – 6, with the Phillies coming out on top.
In the third game, the Phillies had an exceptionally poor offensive performance. The final score was 7 – 2, with the Mets coming out on top. Jose Iglesias has stated that “the gods of baseball will help you out when you play the game the right way,” in response to these recent wins.
In the fourth and final game, both teams increased their defensive force. Many Phillies fans had gathered outside in South Philly to party, but their hopes of winning dwindled as the game progressed. The final score was 4 – 1 with the Mets coming out on top thanks to one swing from Francisco Lindor. His grand slam in the 6th, would be the final nail in the coffin for the Phillies.
The Mets performed very well to close out this season and in the playoffs, winning 3 out of the 4 games against the Phillies. If you want to watch the 2024 National League Championship series, you can find them on FOX Sports Network.
