In May of 2024, Assistant Coach Richard Rogers, left the Madison Dodgers Boys Soccer team after 5 seasons after being offered a Head Coaching position for the Kinnelon Colts Soccer team. Coach Rogers was leaving behind a polished team that included star players such as captains Matthew Munoz and Santi Rodriguez who are both 4 year starters.
Coach Rogers says “over the last few years he’s had the desire to explore options to become a head coach somewhere and after finding an opportunity I took a jump.” Coach Rogers also said “I look forward to playing Madison twice this season and know Coach Murphy will do great in his new role.” Madison faced off against Kinnelon 9/17 and 10/24.
Previously the Dodgers freshmen soccer team coach, Murphy, was now moved up to the new assistant coach. When asked about his new role Coach Murphy excitedly says “I love it.”
Right Wing Liam Goldberg says “Coach Murphy’s a good assistant coach and brings a good positive mentality to the team” Team Captain, John David Aristizabal in response to Coach Murphy moving up says “it’s great.”
Coach Murphy has joined head coach, Coach Vasquez this season. Coach Vasquez has been the head coach of the Dodgers Varsity Soccer team since their 2018/2019 season. Since that season as Head Coach, Vasquez has a total record of 57-37-4.
Madison defeated Kinnelon on the road on 9/17 in their first faceoff of the season with a final score of 2-1. Madison now has to defend their turf against Kinnelon on 10/24 where they aim to go to 2-0 against the Colts.
