As the summer comes to a close and Fall approaches, the Madison High School Boys & Girls Cross-Country team amps up for a predicted successful year. Based on a 2023 season that was one of the most successful in the program’s history, Madison is looking to keep the momentum going with another year full of winning performances.
Fresh off of their annual trip to Vermont in August for XC Camp full of training, team building, and guest speakers, motivation is high. In fact, the team has been training since June 17th, everyone putting in the hard work to ensure the best chances for the season. Head Coach Christopher Monaco, also a teacher of math and statistics at Madison High School, should know a thing or two about odds, and he seems to indicate that they are looking good for this team to defend or exceed their titles from last year. Monaco says that, “good practice days equals good potential and the captains are providing practice leadership, pushing others to push themselves.”
The team opened the season on September 7th, at the Cherokee Challenge 2-mile race. The top placer for the men was Leo London at 10 minutes and 6 seconds, and for the women, the top placer was Clotilde Monville at 13 minutes and 12 seconds. The team has 3 dual meets before the Invitational on October 5th, which starts a series of Championship meets.
