Madison Baseball Preview

After a tough season last year, the Madison Baseball team looks to surprise many people. Last year the team went 10-12-1. Coach Weingart believes that they under-achieved tremendously and thinks that was not their full potential at all.

The team did not graduate many starters from last year. Although they had eight seniors, only two were starters. This team last year was loaded with Juniors and younger talent. The team now has 12 seniors. Key seniors to keep an eye on are first baseman Tyler Shannon, who will be playing Division I baseball at the University of Hartford and led the team in hits and RBIs last year, infielder Carmine Toto, who will play Division III baseball at Clark University, and pitcher Will Forrester, who will play Division III baseball at Gettysburg college.

This team also has a lot of talented seniors who will not be going on to play baseball at college like outfielder Robert Ferris, catcher Sean Mariani, infielder Colin Melvin, and outfielder Zach Taddeo, who led the team in home runs last year.

This team also has a lot of young and upcoming talent, like junior outfielder Kyle Piechnik, junior pitcher Quinn Regan, and sophomore catcher Sam Berk. Berk and Regan have been on the Varsity team since their freshman year and have  bright futures ahead of them. `

This team does not appear to have any weak areas and is ready to compete this year. It’s a very exciting time for Madison Baseball because this team could make a deep run. Practices began on Thursday and they will have their first scrimmage on Saturday, March 25 against Millburn. The season will official open on April 4th against Mountain Lakes at home. It’s a good time for Madison Baseball and their fans.
