Boys Baseball: 2022 Season Preview

The 2022 high school baseball season is here! Under first year head coach Brian Weingart the Dodgers look to improve on their already impressive record of 17-6-1 from last season. Last year the Dodgers had an impressive nine game win streak and their only tie came against a strong Morris Hills team.

This season, the Dodgers played their first game of the season at home on April 2nd. They had a convincing 11-3 win over Pequannock. The team continued their strong start against Middlesex on April 4th, winning 7-3.

Going into the season the Dodgers have some returning state leaders in hits, homeruns, and triples. Junior outfielder and pitcher Zach Taddeo is among the returning leaders in both hits and home runs. Last season he had two home runs and a hits record of 27-64.

Senior outfielder and pitcher Liam O’Hearen and junior first baseman Tyler Shannon were also on the list for the number of triples hit last season. O’Hearen hit three triples while Shannon hit two.

Senior catcher Connor Calbria is looking forward to “going out and playing everyday with my team as we work towards winning as many games as possible.”

Having a new coaching staff is not a worry for junior outfielder Robert Ferris. “We should be a good team even with a new coaching staff so every game should be looked forward to and be exciting,” he said, going on to add that he is “looking forward to playing every single game, especially later in the season if we have home playoff games that would hopefully get some fans there.”

The Dodgers will play Ridge, Hanover Park, Union Catholic, Montclair, Newton at home on April 16th, 18th, 26th, and May 4th and 12th respectively. They look to play their last home game against Kinnelon on May 16th. The team also has many away games to look forward to. The rest of their schedule can be found by going to the link below.
