Adam Angelone: Fastest Dodger Alive
The fastest runner at Madison High School is currently walking the hallways. Adam Angelone is a 3 x Cross Country North 2 Group 2 Sectional Champion.
Adam has been running for about seven years now. When he was little, he played football, however, he stopped after a couple years playing it. Around 6th grade, he felt like he should start something new. He always had a love for running. He decided to join the rec track team in Madison. Adam wasn’t the best at running in the beginning, but his love for the sport grew. He is a prime example of hard work paying off, as he soon became the fastest runner in MHS history. Adam does not have a set plan for his future, but he knows that running will be a part of it. He plans on staying on the east coast and running for a state club.
Adam’s coach Mr. Monaco states: “Adam’s freshman year time was 17:41 for 5k and for his Senior year it was 15:25.” His times have decreased by two minutes; a very significant margin. When asked about how he has accomplished this, Adam said, “I take a lot of recovery days off for my body.” Adam thinks it is very important that his body has days off because he is constantly putting strain on his body when running. To get his times low, Adam tries to work out twice a week in the weight room at Madison High School when he is not running. Adam can consistently be seen in downtown Madison, residents often see him running, working on his craft. The track team likes to spice up their workouts and occasionally go to Bar Method, which is located on Main Street in Madison.
When asked how it feels to be a three time running State Sectional Champ, Adam says, “It feels amazing. I am extremely proud of where I have been able to get today. The pandemic really helped me grow and become a stronger runner.” Adam’s running time for a mile is 4:17 and for two miles, 9:21. That is some speedy lightning running around the halls. Adam’s growth in such a short period of time shows his love and determination for the sport. Adam’s times and accomplishments were shared by his Coach. He stated: “Adam finished 1st in the NJAC championship, 5th at the Morris County Championship, 1st at the North 2 Group 2 Sectional Championship (3x), he is only the 7th boy in history to do that, 5th at the county meet, and 4th at the group 2 state championship.”
Adam recently ran for the Group 2 State Championship. When asked about his 4th place finish, Adam noted that, “Yesterday was a tough day, I felt a little off, I wasn’t in the right mental state. But I am looking forward to my race on Saturday.” Coach Monaco commends Adam and his achievements saying, “I feel privileged to be Adam’s coach. Adam’s strength as a runner, is his strength. When training him I like to push him to be better by challenging him.”
Adam has the Meet of Champions this Saturday, and if he wins, he will become State Champion. Good Luck, Adam. Roll Dodgers.
