My friends and I love to get a sloppy joe after a sports practice or during a priv. However, we have a problem. We can never decide where to dine. So it made me wonder, who has the best sloppy joe?
For this review I choose to look at three spots I and my friends have dined at before. Green Village Deli, CJ’s Deli, and Mainstreet Subs.
For this review, I will be looking at my go to, roast beef sloppy joe on rye, and factor in taste, texture, and cost.
Starting off the list there is Green Village Deli. As the name suggests, it is in Green Village, but is still very close to Madison. Their sloppy joe was juicy and full of life. It was homemade that reflected in the taste and the look of the sandwich. Their sandwich was also reasonably priced at $12.23.
Second on the list is CJ’s Deli. You can find this place on Mainstreet. Their sloppy joe was more compact, which made it slightly easier to hold and eat. However, this also made it a little less flavorful. Still not a bad option though, and that’s without mentioning they actually provide essentially three sandwiches in one by providing an extra slice of rye. While being the most expensive sandwich on the list with a price tag of $13.30, CJ’s can provide a jam-packed multilayered sandwich.
Finally, last on the list is Mainstreet’s Subs. Again this dining option can be found on Mainstreet, and similarly to CJ’s, their sandwich is compact and multilayered. When comparing Mainstreet’s to CJ’s, the sandwiches are almost the same. However, difference comes in pricing and Mainstreet actually provides the cheapest option on this list at $11.68.
So after factoring in taste, texture, and cost I had come to a conclusion. Coming up with the rankings was a difficult task as all three restaurants provided great options and I would recommend each place to anyone.
For third place, I am choosing CJ’s Deli with an 8/10. Both its taste and texture were good, but unfortunately its pricing does make it the most expensive, which holds it back.
For second place, I am selecting Mainstreet Subs with 8.3/10. Its taste and texture were satisfactory, and it gets a few extra points for being the cheapest option.
And for first place, I am giving it to Green Village Deli with 8.9/10. Both its taste and texture were superb, and even though it didn’t provide an extra layer, it provided an authentic homemade taste that I thought narrowly trump the other options.
