On Friday October 10, Madison High School hosted their 4th annual Homecoming Dance. Homecoming dances are traditions around the country, but Madison only brought their homecoming dance back a few years ago at the request of students.
Student Government is responsible for the dance and they always do a great job putting it together. Last year they decided to move the dance from the gym to the courtyard, and after the success of that, they decided to do it outside again this year. This year the Student Government’s Homecoming Committee decided on Enchanted Forest as the theme and the courtyard clearly demonstrated that. There were lots of flowers, string lights and decorations to really immerse the students into the theme.
The dance included a DJ, a photobooth, hot chocolate and snacks. The DJ played music the whole night and got everyone to dance. There was a photographer going around taking photos and there was a backdrop where you could take a photo as you walked in. These photos will likely be included in the yearbook as a way to remember the night, and there was also a photobooth where you and your friends could pose and take pictures to get a photostrip as a keepsake to remember the night.
Since homecoming was a few weeks later than it was last year, it was a little chilly in the courtyard. Student Government realized this and thought of a solution very quickly. They sold hot chocolate for one dollar that anyone could buy if they were especially cold. This was a success and lots of people were walking around with hot chocolate and the money will be used for other events that benefit the whole school.
Following the dance, on Saturday, the Dodger’s football team played in their h omecoming game vs Sparta. In a thrilling game, that lasted til the very end, they came out with a 48-42 win with key plays by seniors Luke McGuire and Carter Ferris.
Despite the cold, homecoming was a big success in Madison this year and it wouldn’t have been the same without the amazing efforts put in by the Student Government and the Homecoming Committee.
