On February 5th, families and friends came together to watch the 67th annual Grammy’s award ceremony and left many shocked with the outcomes. This year’s show, hosted by Trevor Noah featured performances from popular artists: Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, John Legend, Sabrina Carpenter, Shakira, Stevie Wonder and many more. According to CBS News, the performance by The Weeknd left many in shock after his shunning of the Grammys for years and calling the Recording Academy corrupt. Leaving the stage with five grammys this year was rap artist Kendrick Lamar winning various awards for his song “Not Like Us,” a track aimed at dissing rap artist Drake. Another award that left not only the crowd, but the artist in shock was the Best Country Album award, which went to “Cowboy Carter” by Beyonce. Beyonce became the first black woman to ever win best Country Album, and this was her first Best Album of the Year Award ever. Best New Artist of The Year went to artist Chappell Roan, and she gave an inspiring acceptance speech that quickly went viral on social media. Doechii, another up-and-coming artist, won Best Rap Album for “Alligator Bites Never Heal”. Overall, this year’s Grammy Awards left many happy for their favorite artists, and many upset over the outcomes, hoping to see different results next year.
