MHS Podcasts Have Worldwide Audience
The news source at Madison High School, Dodger Media Online, run by Mr. Coviello and Ms. DiTuro produces two weekly podcasts containing content created by Madison students. Students are given a week to come up with a topic and create a podcast that will attract their peers’ attention, as well as listeners from outside of the school. So far in the 2021 school year, two different groups have published two podcasts each on Dodger Media online.
MHS Puck Boys, run by Madison High School Hockey players Luke Wirth and Tyler Shannon, focuses on current events in sports, both for Madison High School and on the professional level. Their second episode discussed the New Jersey Devil’s hot start during the young NHL season, while also reviewing Madison Football’s Senior Night win vs. Verona High School. This week on MHS Puck Boys, the boys interviewed second year Head Boys Hockey Coach, Mr. Cecala. They discussed last year’s success and provide sneak peaks for this year’s return.
TV talk, run by Celeste Arbelaez and Leland Borcherding, focuses on detailed movie reviews and ratings. In back to back weeks, TV Talk has released a detailed review of two of Tim Burton’s most famous classics, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride.” Both episodes by TV talk help to boost our Halloween spirit as we approach Halloweekend.
“Making podcasts is a lot of fun but it’s also more relaxed than people think, you don’t have the stress of sitting behind a camera and the pressure of remembering everything you were going to say. Podcasts make it easy to get all your points across while not having any awkwards moments,” said sophomore producer Leland Borcherding when asked what are the benefits of podcast vs broadcast.
Both group’s have gained a quick audience of listeners primarily located in various NJ townships. And although at least 25% of listeners for both groups are from Madison, NJ, after episode 2, “TV Talk” received listeners from New York, Minnesota, Connecticut, and Arizona, while MHS Puck Boys received listeners from as far away as Germany.
These podcasts are posted on a variety of platforms in order to attract the most listeners. Spotify, Instagram, and Apple podcasts, are among the most popular platforms these podcasts are available for streaming.
