Super Bowl LII: A Chaotic Philly Victory
Later into the evening of February 4th, 2018, Eagles fans took their celebrations to the streets of Philadelphia and became reckless. It began with a Super Bowl party at Temple University that continued outside immediately after the Eagles’ long-awaited win. In the beginning, roughly only 8,000 people were out in downtown Philly, but there was an estimated 100,000 participating in the riot-like celebration by the end of the night.
Stores were broken into, gas stations and convenience stores were raided, windows were shattered, a car was flipped over, and fireworks were set off from the street. Not only that, but several people were injured or put themselves in life threatening situations. Three people climbed to the top of and fell off of street lights, losing consciousness, and over a dozen jumped off of a Ritz-Carlton entrance awning. Multiple fires were started, like a car and a Christmas tree on Broad St. One police officer was ran over by an ATV (all-terrain vehicle), and 76 total Eagles fans were arrested.
Fortunately, no children who were seen walking around Philly with their families were reportedly injured in the massive destructive event, and a happy couple also was seen getting engaged amidst the chaos.
