How to Spend Your Snow Day: Madison Edition

Instead of sleeping on the couch all day after receiving the long-awaited automated phone call from Madison Public Schools, there is an abundance of other ways one can spend his or her snow day here in Dodger Country.

  1. Shoveling/plowing driveways. While this may be hard work for some, keeping the driveways and walkways of your neighborhood clear is an efficient way to make some money. Then you can use your earnings to go down to Drip and get some hot chocolate after the storm!

  • Exercise. What better way to make use of all that free time than to do some aerobic workouts at the Madison Area Y? – said no one ever. While the cold, winter months may bring about seasonal depression for all the sun-lovers of Madison, exercise can make you feel more awake, energized, and happy. So roll out the yoga mat and start stretching!

  • Play in the Snow. If you’d rather keep your yard an untouched “winter wonderland,” consider meeting your friends in the park to make snow angels, an igloo, or a snowman! Going outside and acting like a child again while the snow is falling will always be fun for everyone.

  • Hit the Slopes. Maybe a drive up to Camelbak or WhiteFace is not ideal when your car is buried under six inches of snow, but finding a hill in Summerhill Park or Loantaka may be an inventive way for you to challenge your snowboarding abilities. Even if you can’t snowboard, there is always sledding!

  • Movie Binge. Getting frostbite is definitely not on anyone’s agenda, but maybe relaxing at home during the day off from school is. Most Madison residents are fortunate enough to have clear streets (for the most part) during blizzard season, so taking a short drive to a friend’s or even a walk to spend your day off from school watching American classics is the way to go.

MDO would like to remind everyone that even though it is important to enjoy the rare snow day, it is always a good day to be a dodger at Madison High School.
