Miss Danielle Comes to MHS
Last week Mrs. Holzer invited the author Danielle Linder to her Creative Writing class to teach her students about writing children’s books. Linder is a successful author of several children’s books herself, and is also an author for the huffington post. While she was here she talked to Mrs. Holzer’s class about her creative process and her experience self publishing. Linder works with an illustrator in Spain and has self published all her books through Amazon Prime. Linder’s most popular books include Sofia the Snail and Arabelle.
Linder also has a TV show on Amazon Prime. Her show is based around her books, and she discussed the process that went into creating the show. The show was conceived on Amazon Prime and is eleven minutes wrong. In order to start the show Linder had to have a whole season’s worth of stories and several pilot episodes before Amazon would consider it. Each book she wrote is an episode, with thirteen total for a thirteen episode season. Linder has gotten in contact with executives of other companies in order to try and get her show on cable television. In order for her show to be considered, she now has to have two seasons worth of episodes, which means another thirteen books to write.
In terms of animation, Linder works with an independent illustrator in Spain. The illustrator has worked with Linder on all her books, but he was not brought on board with the television show. Linder says she will work with him on her next books, but the companies she works with have their own animation teams which will do the animation for her show.
MHS, and Mrs. Holzer’s class especially, would like to thank Danielle Linder for coming to visit and teaching us about writing, publishing, and creating your own television show!
