Glyphs-ipedia (Everything you wanted to know about Glyphs)
Madison High School’s literary magazine, Glyphs, is back in full swing for this school year. Meetings have begun, but all are still invited to attend. Ask to join the Facebook group for the dates and times of meetings; they may vary week-to-week. At meetings, attendees read the submissions from that week and discuss them, giving constructive criticism and voting whether or not the piece should be in the magazine.
“A Glyphs meetings is a healthy environment full of people who love literature and art and want to discuss it with their friends,” says Grace Van Cleef, one of the editors-in-chief of Glyphs this year. “Every submission is treated with respect and discussed thoroughly, whether it’s short or long. The time spent between reading submissions is spent eating food and chatting with your friends, so there’s really never a dull moment in Glyphs.”
The club is always looking for submissions of prose, poetry, short stories, art, or photography to review at meetings for the final magazine at the end of the year. To submit, email [email protected]. The submissions read at meetings are anonymous, and if the piece is chosen to be featured in the magazine the author may choose to remain anonymous in the publication.
The first coffeehouse this year is taking place on Friday, October 23rd, in the Chase Room at the Madison Public Library. It is autumn themed. There will be poetry and prose readings and musical performances; it is not to be missed! The coffeehouse will start at 7:30pm and will go until 9:30pm. There are fifteen slots for performers and also sign ups to bring food and drinks at this link: www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f4eabae2da1f58-glyphs.
Glyphs’ short story contest is approaching! The deadline is November 30th for submissions. Be on the lookout for more details coming soon. Follow Glyphs on Snapchat and Instagram, @glyphsmhs, for updates about meetings and other events.
