Bye Bye… Walker!

Whether you’re a total politics junkee and watch every single presidential debate or just a Netflix addict, I’m sure you’ve heard of Scott Walker and his shocking decision to drop out of the 2016 presidential race. Scott Walker was elected the 45th governor of Wisconsin in 2010 and won the re-election in 2014, but this past July, Walker decided to enter the presidential race running along side of the 16 other candidates.

After being apart of the election for only 2 months, Walker announced his withdrawal from the race. There was no definite explanation for why Walker made this rash decision, but he did state “…I am being called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race so that a positive, conservative message can rise to the top of the field”. He also claimed that he wanted voters to be able to focus on a limited number of candidates for a better election process. Although this may be true, one of Walker’s supporters said that the low amount of voters was a huge influence on his decision to drop out of the race especially since Walker had less than 1% of national support.

Other reasons why he may have dropped out could have been that his campaign budget was too low and Trump was too competitive to run against. After all, Walker did aim his argument towards Trump by accusing him of personal attacks and suggested that the other candidates drop out as well to form an “alliance” against Trump.

Even though Walker might not have had the votes or resources to become president, he did express a few of his ideas and views on how the country should be run. For example, he claimed that the country needs optimism, something the Republican party fails to focus on. Walker also believes voters want to hear positive things coming out of this election,  which I think we, as future voters, can safely agree with.
