When Fashion isn’t Always Fashion
The 2015 Emmys, like any award show, is the perfect stage for designers to showcase their couture designs while also being promoted by celebrities. However, while watching the red carpet before the awards, I noticed that some dresses resembled more than just dresses.
Kerry Washington, wearing a mesh Marc Jacobs dress from his spring-summer 2016 collection. This dress is beautiful, but could also been mistaken for knight armour at Medieval Times.
Photographer Jordan Strauss is about three months early to the christmas parade. The draping of the dress is impeccable, but very festive.
Regina King, who won an Emmy for her role in American Crime, wore a dress with the same silhouette of a lampshade. The dress is from Krikor Jabotian while the lampshade could be found in Bed Bath and Beyond.
Actress Maisie Williams wore a dress that could easily be mistaken for bubble wrap. By easily, I mean that I really thought she was wearing bubble wrap.
Wearing, Giles Deacon, Gwendoline Christie is the literal translation of a greek goddess. This is design is less of an interpretation and more of an authentic greek dress.
Joanna Newsom’s dress had more similarities with a bed frame than an actual dress.
Resembling an inanimate object doesn’t necessarily make a dress ugly, but at the same time, just because something is designer, doesn’t mean it’s not ugly.
