Loveless Dismantling of the Love Lock Bridge
Paris’s Pont des Arts Bridge, otherwise known as the “Love Lock Bridge”, is getting a change. On June 1st, the hundreds of thousands locks that covered the sides of the bridge were removed by crane. Paris is known as the City of Love, and couples traditionally connect a lock to the bridge and throw the key into the river. Over time, the locks weighed a combined total of about 45 tons, with roughly 700,000 keys still in the river.
As someone who has dreamed of attaching a lock to this famous bridge, it saddens me that such a well known bridge is being changed. However, I completely understand that removing the lock with save the bridge with all of its gorgeous architecture
