In Saudi Arabia, plans to build the largest hotel in the world are underway.  To be called Abraj Kudai, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the hotel will be composed of twelve different towers and contain up to 10,000 rooms, as well as 70 restaurants.  The hotel will also be built with multiple helipads and a full-size convention center to provide ultimate luxury for every guest.  This hotel, planned to be up and running by 2017, will be the largest hotel in the world by room count.  Designed by the architectural firm Dar Al-Handasah, the 3.5 billion dollar mega hotel is already said to be under construction.  It will cover approximately 1.4 million square meters of the Saudi Arabian landscape.  As for design specifics, the hotel will consist of a ring of 12 towers that will rise from the ground. The hotel will be located approximately 2 kilometers from the Masjid al-Haram, the holy mosque of Mecca, which will be sure to attract people from all over the world to the hotel.  At the moment, Las Vegas is currently home to the worlds largest hotel in terms of the number of hotel rooms it houses.  In Las Vegas, the MGM Grand has a record of 6,198 rooms, according to the hotel industry research firm STR Inc.  The Abraj Kudai in Mecca will almost double this record, dwarfing any other hotel in the entire world.
