Mad Lax is Back!

Mad Lax for the win.

MHS Lacrosse is back. This Wednesday, March 25th, MHS Girl’s Lacrosse had their first game, and first win, on Ted Monica Field against Mount Saint Dominics. In unwanted cold rainy weather, the team pulled through, creating a great start for the season. Starting the game down one with a quick draw win and goal by Mount Saint Dominics, the Dodgers came back quickly adding goals to be up 10-3 by half time. Finishing the game with a score of 16-5, Senior Captain Laney Rutland scored five goals and had three assists and Senior Captain Maddie Anton put in four goals as well.

The Madison Girl’s Lacrosse team has gone through many changes from last year. After losing majority of their starting line up from graduating seniors, Madison showed their depth as a team. A much smaller team this year, many girls had to step up and play at a higher level than they had ever before. Two freshmen, Grace Donato and Maddie Gleason, even started on the varsity team, both playing defense. Also a new head coach, Coach D, and JV coach, Coach Davis, joined the team, coaching high school girl’s lacrosse both for the first time.

With many setbacks from losing key players and a head coach from last year, it is incredible that the girl’s have achieved such a great score for their first game. Up next are games on Friday and Tuesday against both very powerful and challenging teams, Chatham and Oak Knoll. Good Luck to the Lady Dodgers Lacrosse Team as they begin a hopefully successful season! Also be sure to follow the MHS Glax instagram account @madglax for updates about the team and the season.
