Advice for Madison Students

Shira Buchsbaum

“Tell me about yourself.”

The pressures of college, careers, and success are inevitable during high school. As students in a highly competitive academic environment, we often rely on our credentials and commitments to speak for ourselves when describing who we are. In doing this, we neglect to recognize the reasons we became involved in our extracurricular and passions in the first place.

I am the Editor-in-Chief of Madison Dodger Online, Madison High School’s student-run newspaper. Why am I here? Because I love sharing stories and enabling my peers to pursue their interests through writing. I love asking questions and finding answers, and I love producing written pieces as documentation of my and my staff’s hard work.

So next time you’re sitting down and sifting through all that you do, think about why you started that in the first place. Your reasons for sticking with lacrosse or the musical or Glyphs may have changed, but let that drive you in pursuing your passion. Let that shine when you share that with someone new.
