‘Bloody Sunday’ Tribute
On the 50th anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday’, thousands of people covered an Alabama bridge to pay tribute to the bloody battle between protesters and police. On Sunday January 8th, at least 15,000 to 20,000 people came together crowding the bridge where the violent attacks occurred. An anniversary march from Selma to Montgomery set out to begin on Monday and end with a rally in the Alabama capitol on Friday afternoon. Older generations brought younger generations to the bridge on Sunday so that they can understand the importance of the historic march.
On March 7th, 1965, police beat and tear-gassed protesters that stood at the foot of the Selma bridge. This caused a violent shock all around the nation. The attack on the protesters caused a march from Selma to Montgomery two weeks later. The protests helped to pass the Voting Rights Act later in 1965.
President Obama joined the march on Saturday with many civil rights leaders where he talked about the progress of race relations since the 1960s. He also talked about the recent clashes between police and protesters

Really good work on this article, Fiona, especially because this is such a difficult topic to cover from an indirect lens.
