Thanksgiving has just recently passed and many families gathered to celebrate the national holiday by eating turkey and spending quality time with one another. But with the tradition of Thanksgiving also comes the national tradition of Black Friday. On the succeeding Friday after Thanksgiving, many different stores mark down prices on items from iPhones to shoes. These sales start on Thanksgiving evening and go on through the next day. Crowds of eager shoppers line up in the front of stores to try and trample their way over on and other to the best deal on items. But this year, some people think the popularity of Black Friday decreased.
In many stores and shopping malls across the country the numbers of shoppers decreased from last year. This decrease in the amount of shoppers is due to multiple factors. Firstly, many customers have gone to ordering items online instead of actually going to the stores and buying them. Additionally, other costumers on Black Friday claimed that the prices were not enticing enough this year to go out in the early morning. On Friday at a local Target store the crowds had vanished by seven in the morning and it was just business as usual.
Many people like the idea of the Black Friday holiday sales decreasing. One women outside of Target said that she was thankful none of her family was involved in retail so they didn’t have to work Thanksgiving night. She also said that Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with families and that it was unfair of stores to take that away from their employees. Only next years sales will tell if Black Friday is really starting to disappear.
