On September 27, Bottle Hill Day, the new store Short Stories opened its doors for the first time. Madison has welcomed the independent bookstore, arts, and learning hub into the downtown area.
Short Stories was funded through a kickstarter website which gave out prizes such as t-shirts, invitations to private events, art from the gallery, and many more rewards for pledging money. A great deal of support was shown for the project as 145 backers pledged money, along with others such as Tad Hills, a New York Times Best Selling author-artist who donated many signed paintings depicting one of his children’s book characters. The process of opening the store also included help from student volunteers and others who assembled shelves.
Short Stories is owned by Madison’s Barb Short who is the mother of two daughters, Evi and Lily. The store is split into 3 sections: the community art space, the center of the bookshop, and a children’s and quiet learning area. The community book hub’s Facebook page posts the hours it is open and is ready to take orders.
