Madison High School Girl’s Soccer team has shown the school that they are back. With the best record Coach Lynott has had in his 10 years coaching at Madison (7-1-1), September has proven to be a great month for the Lady Dodgers. Having only one tough loss against a very talented Villa Walsh team (1-0) and an intense double overtime tie with Whippany Park (0-0), the girls hope to bring their success into October, and hopefully, November.
They have already brought their success to the county tournament, which started last week. Their great record paid off as they earned the number 7 seed out of 27 teams in Morris County. The team faced off against an aggressive Dover at MRC on Friday, September 26th. Having won against Dover on Wednesday for a conference game 6-1, Madison knew that they had the capability to win. However, after a rough start to the game on Wednesday with a score of 1-1 at half time, the Lady Dodgers knew that Dover would give an easy victory.
Similarly to the game on Wednesday, Madison scored early in the first half to make it 1-0. However unlike the earlier game, Madison did not underestimate Dover’s capabilities and kept trying as hard as they could. Madison Junior Mackaella Goodwin scored 2 goals, following the impressive hat trick she had on Wednesday. Sophomore Katie Flanagan and Junior Gill Tapp also had goals making Friday’s score 4-0.
Next stop for Madison Lady Dodgers Soccer is a conference game on Wednesday October 1st against a known rival, Parsippany. Having already beaten them earlier in the season, the girls know never to take too lightly any game they play.
