As a majority of juniors have recently returned from visiting prospective colleges and universities over spring break, first impressions are just getting out. “If you went on a college tour this weekend and didn’t Instagram a picture of an old building or a green did you really go on a college tour?” tweeted Junior Shira Buchsbaum after April break. The aesthetics and location of a college campus play a huge role in whether a student gets that special feeling about a school or not. A certain school might appear to be the perfect fit on paper but in person, if the grass isn’t green and trimmed, the surrounding town has boarded up windows, and the buildings on campus are former YMCA establishments, you might be left with a dubious impression. A maintained campus implies a conscientious university focused on a healthy environment for their students. Preferable weather is always a plus too.
“I know absolutely nothing about the school,” Junior Ethan Tannen comments on the University of Miami, “I’m being completely honest when I say I’m giving it a chance because it looks like a resort.”
Tannen adds that after a visit to Lehigh University, he “was turned off by the surrounding run down city of Bethlehem. Location is more important than it seems. You’re not just going to school, you’re enjoying the entire college experience.”Answer the poll below and let us know what you think.
