Senior pranks are a staple experience of any class graduating from high school. In most schools, senior pranks are often harmless antics organized by the existing class in an attempt to leave a memorable and long lasting mark on the school.
Madison High School is no stranger to the annual pranks put together by the school’s veterans. While some pranks, such as the weed killer on the school’s field, have left a lot to be desired, other years’ attempts have been more successful. Ask any current MHS student about the yearly pranks that they have witnessed and they will most likely recall those such as the class of 2013’s mission to fill the halls with thousands of bouncy balls.
While most times senior pranks are harmless and forgivable, this is not always the case. Just last week, over 60 students attending Teaneck High School in Teaneck, NJ were caught vandalizing their school in a pathetic attempt to execute the greatest senior prank ever. At 2 A.M last Thursday, 62 students broke into the Teaneck High School and proceeded to cover door handles in petroleum jelly, upturned desks, and urinate in the hallways. Of the 62 students, 24 were over the age of 18 and are now facing possible felony charges.
This unfortunate incident has left an ugly stain on the on the tradition of senior pranks. What was once an anticipated event for students to have some good-hearted fun is now looked down upon as being a danger to the integrity of the school and its students. While Madison’s class of 2014 has not yet performed any pranks as of yet, one can only hope that they will be able to restore some respect to the fading tradition.
