This past Sunday, The Madison Education Foundation held their 11th annual 5k at the Madison High School. Just under 500 people finished the race and over 600 came out to show their support. In addition, over 150 kids signed up to participate in the fun run that took place afterwards. This event raised over 10,000 dollars for the organization. Most of the people that showed up were from Madison, but people from Massachusetts, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, and even Virginia came to race. The ages of participants ranged from young children to women and men in their seventies.
Madison alumni Kyle Flyer crossed the finish line first while wearing his old Madison High School track uniform. His time was an astounding 17:37 (approximately a 5:40 mile pace). Madison sophomore Noah Buzinkai finished second. “It was exciting. I was nervous about who might beat me. During the race I thought there was a chance that I could win,“ he notes about his feelings on how he felt during the race. At just 15, he ran his 5k at a 5:40 mile pace and came in first in his age range.
After the race, everyone gathered at the front of the school to listen to the drumming of Justin Kempt and the band The Dairy Farmers, which is composed of only MHS students. The Dairy Farmers were all wearing plaid and played during the fun run. It was an enjoyable event for all of those that came.
