Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Madison Girl’s Lacrosse played their County Tournament Quarter final game against the Mendham Minutemen at Mendham High School. Mendham, always known for its very strong squad, was looking to win easily against Madison in order to go quickly onto the next round. However, the Madison Lady Dodgers were ready to put up a fight and not back down no matter what ranking Mendham had. Within the first minute of the game, Madison Senior Michele Montagna scored the first goal, setting the intense pace for the rest of the game. After this goal, Mendham showed their skills by quickly scoring 7 goals. Although the scoreboard was 7 to 1, it did not show the hard work that the Lady Dodgers put in every play of the game. After a time out called by Madison Coach Keown, Madison came out with high intensity and a need to win. By the end of the first half the score was 10 (Mendham) to 5 (Madison). Madison knew that if they tried hard enough, they could come back and attempt to win the game.
In the second half, the goals were back and forth, with each team scoring every couple minutes. Although Mendham had 14 goals and Madison 8 goals with only 12 minutes left, the Lady Dodgers never gave up. Fighting hard, they only let 1 goal in the last 12 minutes, where as Mendham’s goalie let in 3 goals to make the score 15 to 11.The Madison Lady Dodgers did end up losing, but the scoreboard did not show their great effort and attitude of never giving up. Having 3 shots on goal in the last minute proves that the team continued to fight despite a seemingly impossible victory. The Madison Lady Dodgers Lacrosse suffered a disappointing loss but are proud of their determination and look to accomplish great success in the upcoming State Tournament next week.
