With only one day until the opening game of the season, Madison High School’s Girls Lacrosse team has proven that they have a bright future ahead. Only losing three seniors from last year, the strong program of girls has reached full potential, looking toward victory in their games this week and throughout the season. After a surprisingly cold preseason filled with uncertainties about the weather, the team has accomplished a lot despite abnormalities of the amount of field practice they received. Having already played three scrimmages against successfully athletic teams such as Morris Catholic and Kent Place, the Lady Dodgers feel ready for their first away game on Wednesday against Millburn.
The 2014 season has thus far been, and will continue to be, very focused on the senior players. The group of seniors on the team this year have led the team throughout the past four years at MHS with their talent, athleticism, and desire to play the game. With an outstanding number of 14 seniors this year, the team has been brought together towards one goal – to go as far in the State Tournament as they can. The talent and love of lacrosse in this class is unprecedented, with three of the captains (Molly Fishter, Michelle Montagna, and Brynn Taylor) committed to playing Division One lacrosse at college next year.
The opening game on Wednesday, March 26th, will be a great match up between Madison and Millburn: very similar teams with strengths in their senior class players. Varsity goalie, Junior Kiely Duffy, has said that she is “really excited for this season” and that the team has “made a lot of progress” despite “what little time and field space” the team has had. Both she and the rest of the team hope and believe that they will accomplish great success this year on and off the field.
