Sages Pages Bookstore in Madison underwent a massive flood in January from a water main break in Madison Plaza, where the store is located. The bookstore was deemed a “total loss” by its insurance company after the water main break flooded the store and left inches of water. Owner Lillian Trujillo said that she is not sure if she will be able to start the business again. Trujillo said that everything inside had to be removed so the store could be torn down and then treated for mold. Fixing such damage is an expensive process and would take at least six months before the store could reopen. Trujillo said that she will be crunching numbers to see if she is even able to reopen the business. Pictures from the flood are posted on the Sages Pages Facebook page. Sages Pages has been in Madison for many years, opening at 250 Main Street in Madison on September 5, 2004. Sages Pages upgraded its store to a larger location when it moved to the Madison Plaza in August of 2008. The tragedy that happened to the friendly neighborhood bookstore has left them with nothing. Lillian and the staff are still unsure of whether reopening the store is going to be possible, and won’t know until the total rebuilding of the store is done in two to three months. Madison hopes that the store will come back more successful than ever.
