This weekend, Harmonium presents “The Song Within” featuring “Annelies,” a spectacular new choral composition depicting the diaries of Anne Frank by James Whitbourn. The concert will feature instruments, as well as the chorus, such as violin, cello, clarinet, and piano. It will also feature a multimedia presentation. The concert will be held 8pm on Saturday, March 1st 2014 and 3pm on Sunday, March 2nd 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Morristown.
The 17th annual New Jersey High School Student Choral Composition Contest has extended its deadline from March 3 to March 29, in the hopes of having as many participants as possible submit their original compositions to Harmonium. The pieces must be five minutes or less in length and based on the writings found in the Latin poem “Musica Dei donum optimi,” Psalm 149, or various other selected works. The Grand Prize winner, chosen by a panel of professional musicians, will receive a cash prize of $1000 and his or her sponsoring teacher will also receive a monetary award. The winner will be announced in April and his or her composition will be performed and recorded live during the Harmonium Spring Concert at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison on June 7th and 8th at 7:30 pm.
